Clippers Boost Their Playoff Hopes with Win Over Wizards
Clippers Extend Winning Streak with Victory over Wizards
Kawhi Leonard showcased a stellar performance, scoring 33 points, while James Harden contributed 22 points as the Los Angeles Clippers claimed a 119-105 victory against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night. This win marked the Clippers’ fourth consecutive victory.
With this triumph, the Clippers improved their record to 17-23, significantly changing their fortunes from a 6-21 start to the season. They are now only half a game behind Memphis, positioning themselves for a potential play-in spot this postseason.
In addition to Leonard and Harden, Yanic Konan Niederhauser added 16 points, and Jordan Miller made an impact with 11 points and 10 rebounds, further contributing to the team’s 11-2 record since December 20.
Notably, the Clippers achieved this victory without starting center Ivica Zubac, who is sidelined with an ankle injury, and forward John Collins, who is dealing with a groin issue. Despite being under minutes restrictions, Leonard shot impressively, finishing seven of 11 from three-point range in just 30 minutes on the court.
For the Wizards, Kyshawn George led the scoring with 23 points, supported by Khris Middleton with 17 points. This defeat marked Washington’s fourth consecutive loss and left them 0-2 on their current four-game trip.
Marvin Bagley III added 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Wizards, who were already missing key players following the recent trade of CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, while new acquisition Trae Young remains out with knee and quad injuries. Young is expected to undergo reevaluation after the All-Star break.
The Wizards faced additional challenges when center Alex Sarr was ejected with 1:45 left in the first half after receiving his second technical foul.
The Clippers opened strong, leading 37-22 after the first quarter and extending their lead to 20 points at 54-34. However, the Wizards mounted a comeback in the second half, launching a 30-13 run to narrow the gap to 83-81 with 3:26 remaining in the third quarter.
Leonard answered the challenge, scoring 11 consecutive points early in the fourth, including a pivotal three-pointer that extended the Clippers’ lead to 110-95 with 6:14 remaining in the game.
