Chris Hemsworth Teams Up with Taron Egerton and Zazie Beetz in New Crime Drama “Kockroach”
Chris Hemsworth Joins Cast of New York Crime Film Kockroach
Chris Hemsworth, known for his roles in Thor and Mad Max, is set to star alongside Taron Egerton and Zazie Beetz in the upcoming crime film Kockroach. The project, produced by Andrew Lazar of American Sniper fame, has gained attention due to its high-profile cast.
Hemsworth steps into the role after Channing Tatum had to depart from the film due to scheduling conflicts.
Filming is expected to commence in April. Lazar has likened Kockroach to classic gangster films such as Goodfellas and Scarface. The film’s synopsis describes it as the tale of a "mysterious stranger who takes on New York’s criminal underworld, transforming himself into a larger-than-life crime boss in a city where power is everything."
The feature is based on the novel by William Lashner and will be directed by Matt Ross, known for Captain Fantastic. The screenplay is penned by Jonathan Ames, with revisions by Ross. Christina Weiss Lurie, alongside Lazar, will serve as a producer.
International rights for Kockroach will be actively marketed by Black Bear at the upcoming European Film Market (EFM). Domestic representation is managed by CAA Media Finance and Range Select.
Key creative heads include production designer Colin Gibson, an Oscar winner for his work on Mad Max: Fury Road; Emmy-winning cinematographer Adam Arkapaw, recognized for his contributions to The Order, The King, Macbeth, and the inaugural seasons of Top of the Lake and True Detective; and VFX Supervisor Jonathan Dearing, known for films like M3gan, The Invisible Man, and Upgrade.
Looking ahead, Hemsworth’s upcoming projects include Amazon MGM’s crime-thriller Crime 101, the Russo brothers’ Avengers: Doomsday, and an Amazon action film titled Subversion.
