Chris Hemsworth Confirms Return for Extraction 3 This Summer, with Sam Hargrave Directing and Idris Elba Joining the Cast
Production for the highly anticipated film is set to commence this summer, with David Weil onboard as the screenwriter.
While specific plot details remain undisclosed, audiences can anticipate another action-packed adventure as Rake, portrayed by Chris Hemsworth, and his team undertake a perilous extraction mission.
Both Extraction and Extraction 2 dominated Netflix’s Most Popular English Films list. The original film, which premiered in 2020, shattered viewership records for the platform and quickly garnered a dedicated following. It received two Critics Choice nominations, for Best Action Movie and Best Actor in an Action Movie, awarded to Hemsworth.

Producers for the film include Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Ari Costa through AGBO. Hemsworth and Benjamin Grayson will produce for Wild State, alongside Hargrave, Patrick Newall, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin. The series draws from the graphic novel Ciudad, created by Ande Parks, with contributions from Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, and illustrations by Fernando Leon Gonzalez. Steven V. Scavelli is set to serve as executive producer.
The original film was released in the spring of 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, capturing widespread attention and viewership. Its success was so substantial that the creators decided to resurrect Rake, who appeared to have died at the end of the first installment, for the sequel, which exceeded streaming figures from the first film.
Director Sam Hargrave has indicated that plans for the next installment have been in motion, although they hinged on the availability of their prominent cast members. After promoting his recent Amazon MGM Studios thriller Crime 101, Hemsworth expressed enthusiasm at reviewing the latest script for Extraction 3, paving the way for this summer’s shoot.
To accommodate Hemsworth’s schedule, filming is slated for summer, aligning with his participation in another project titled Kockroach, which begins production this month.
Wild State, co-founded by Hemsworth and Ben Grayson, is a multiplatform production company dedicated to storytelling across various media forms, including scripted and unscripted films and television. Besides the Extraction franchise, their portfolio includes Limitless on Disney+/National Geographic, Crime 101 with Amazon, and the upcoming Corsair Code with Apple.
Additionally, Netflix and AGBO recently unveiled plans for two new projects: a series featuring Omar Sy and a South Korean film titled Tygo, starring Don Lee, Lee Jin-uk, and Lalisa “LISA” Manobal. This film represents AGBO’s seventh collaboration with Netflix; their prior release, The Gray Man, ranks as the streamer’s No. 9 most popular film, boasting 139.3 million views.
Representation details include Hemsworth with CAA, Elba with WME and The Artists Partnership, Farahani with CAA and Agence Adequat, and Hargrave with WME.
