Chiwetel Ejifor and Renate Reinsve Share a Disturbing Take on “Everything Must Go” in the “Backrooms” Trailer
“All these rooms … this place builds them.”
In an eerie preview, the upcoming film Backrooms reveals a world of infinite corridors.
“It’s like a maze — it just goes on and on,” one character comments in the trailer.
The first full trailer for Backrooms, produced by A24, features prominent performances by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Oscar nominee Renate Reinsve. View the trailer above and the poster below.
The film is inspired by a viral series of found-footage videos created by director Kane Parsons, which follows characters exploring a disconcertingly yellow and empty office space hidden behind a retail outlet. The narrative raises questions about the existence of otherworldly beings within its confines.
“Sometimes I’m scared I’ll get lost,” echoes a voice in the trailer—a sentiment that resonates with viewers.
The film’s title draws from a creepypasta—user-generated urban legends—first shared on 4chan in 2019. The original short film, set in the 1990s, depicted a young filmmaker’s descent into a different dimension.
Joining Ejiofor and Reinsve are Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell in Backrooms—a collaboration between 21 Laps, Atomic Monster, and Phobos. The screenplay was penned by Will Soodik (Ash vs. Evil Dead), with producers including James Wan, Michael Clear, Roberto Patino, Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, Dan Levine, Osgood Perkins, Chris Ferguson, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Kori Adelson.
Set to be released on May 29, the film features the tagline, “Everything Must Go.” Viewers may want to reconsider asking retailers for items in the back.
