Reflecting on their long history, Chaz shared, “I first met Shara more than 40 years ago when we were just teenagers. I think it’s safe to say that not many grooms ultimately end up marrying the very first girl they ever kissed so many years later.”
He described the depth of their connection, stating, “She makes me feel complete knowing she will always be there beside me as partner, my best friend, and the love of my life. No matter what life brings us, we will always be safer and stronger together…and we are home.”

Chaz is the son of Cher and her former husband Sonny Bono, known for their hit-making duo in the 1960s. Cher also has another son, Elijah, born in 1976 to her then-husband Gregg Allman. Both Bono and Allman have since passed away.
In a 2010 interview, Cher praised her sons, saying, “They are both very talented, both very artistic, and they are good children. They’re grown-ups. They’re so different.”

Chaz grew up in New York City and attended LaGuardia High School. He has been a notable figure in the LGBTQ+ community, making history in 2011 as the first transgender contestant on Dancing With the Stars and starring in the film Becoming Chaz, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival that same year.
Cher has spoken out against transphobic comments directed at Chaz, stating, “Chaz is so happy, so unbelievably happy, and I don’t know what the people’s problems are. They’re fearful, and they just don’t understand how to react to it.”
