Charli XCX Takes Center Stage with an Electric Guitar in ‘Rock Music’ Video Teaser and New Song Release Date Announcement

Charli XCX is making waves in the rock genre with her upcoming single “Rock Music.” In a new teaser released on her Instagram, the pop artist dramatically stomps on an electric guitar, shattering it with one swift move.
The striking black-and-white clip, shared on Thursday (May 7), showcases only Charli’s feet, adorned in strikingly high black stilettos. As her heel crashes down, a powerful mix of fuzzy guitars and drum hits reverberates, setting the stage for her bold new direction.
In the caption, she announced, “rock music. song and video out tonight. 9pm pst.”
Charli first hinted at her transition to a more edgy sound during an April interview with British Vogue, stating, “I think the dance floor is dead, so now we’re making rock music,” while unveiling some of the new song’s lyrics.
“If I’d made another album that felt more dance-leaning, it would have felt really hard, really sad,” she explained. “What’s interesting for me is to bend the possibilities of what my perspective on that could be.”
Charli clarified that she isn’t completely shifting genres. Recently, she posted a studio clip on Instagram, humorously noting, “a video of me making a song called ‘rock music’ that is not actually rock music which is funny because I never said I was making a rock album.”
“Rock Music” will be her first release since the February launch of her Wuthering Heights companion album, which climbed to No. 8 on the Billboard 200. Her previous work, Brat, reached No. 3 on the chart, solidifying her status as a pop sensation.
