Chad Michael Murray Shares His Thoughts on Scott Patterson Leaving ‘Sullivan’s Crossing’
Chad Michael Murray Comments on Scott Patterson’s Departure from Sullivan’s Crossing
Chad Michael Murray has addressed the recent departure of his co-star Scott Patterson from the Canadian romantic drama series Sullivan’s Crossing, which premiered its fourth season on CTV this month.
In an interview with Yahoo! Canada, Murray acknowledged the complexities surrounding Patterson’s exit. "It does happen. And there are various, different things that transpire,” he said. Focusing on the series itself, he added, “You just never know. And so it’s one of those situations where you go, ‘OK, well, just look at the show, what is the show? Where does it sit? And how do you hold it up and keep it true to itself? And that’s all on the text and the storytelling.’”
Murray emphasized the show’s fidelity to its core, assuring fans that Patterson’s character, Sully, remains a significant presence. “There’s no question in my mind that we did that. The show stays totally true to itself, and Sully is still a big part of it … He still exists in this world, and there’s still that relationship. And he built the Crossing, so it’s always going to be there, and that’s kind of the foundation that the show is built on,” he stated.
Patterson, addressing his departure, expressed a commitment to the audience and the character. “The fans deserved better than to think the embodiment of this character, me, would just disrespect not only the show, but them. In the end, we’re all fans of these characters and stories, and I’ll always support and defend the truth,” he said.
The third season concluded with Sully relocating to Ireland to support his girlfriend, Helen Culver, whose novel was being adapted for television. "Season 3 of Sullivan’s Crossing ended with Sully leaving for Ireland, beginning a new chapter in his life. Season 4 picks up the next day, with Sully still overseas,” noted a representative. “While he isn’t physically present in this season, the character remains an important part of the world with the potential to be included in future seasons should that align with the ongoing creative.”
Set to debut in the U.S. on The CW on April 20 before moving to Netflix, Season 4 presents a new focus on characters Maggie Sullivan and Cal, played by Morgan Kohan and Murray, respectively. As Maggie navigates a fresh direction for her career and a renewed relationship with Cal, the arrival of her ex-husband, Liam, presents new challenges, prompting questions about her ability to move on from her past.
