Celine Dion’s Possible Return to Paris: What the New Posters Might Mean
Trending on Billboard
After her first performance in years at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Celine Dion is reportedly planning a series of shows at La Défense Arena, marking a significant return amid her ongoing battle with Stiff Person Syndrome.
Speculation about Dion’s potential plans intensified over the weekend when local fans began sharing sightings of signs in the City of Love featuring quotes from her famous songs. One sign, positioned outside Café du Louvre, read “My Heart Will Go On,” a reference to her 1998 Billboard Hot 100-topping hit. Additional signs featured the lyrics “Pour que tu m’aimes encore” and “Power of Love.”
On Monday, Variety corroborated a report from the French-Canadian publication La Presse, which indicated that Dion is set to perform two concerts each week in September and October at the venue.
Billboard has reached out to Dion’s representatives for confirmation of these upcoming shows.
If confirmed, her return to the stage would be a remarkable achievement in light of her struggle with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder characterized by severe muscle spasms. Dion disclosed her diagnosis in 2022, which led to the cancellation of her planned North American and European tour dates.
In her 2024 documentary, I Am: Céline Dion, she spoke candidly about her illness and her determination to perform again. That determination was realized in July 2024, when she delivered a moving performance of Edith Piaf’s “Hymne A L’Amour” from the Eiffel Tower during the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics.
Should her residency come to fruition, it would honor Dion’s commitment expressed in the documentary: “If I can’t run, I’ll walk. If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl… I won’t stop.”
