Caterina Scorsone’s Three Daughters: Meet Eliza, Pippa, and Lucky from Grey’s Anatomy

Caterina Scorsone, renowned for her role as Dr. Amelia Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy, is also a dedicated mother to three daughters: Eliza, Pippa, and Lucky. Despite her character’s initial hesitation towards motherhood, Scorsone embraces her role as a nurturing parent.
The actress shares her children with ex-husband Rob Giles, a musician. Their first daughter, Eliza, was born in 2012, followed by Pippa in 2016, and youngest daughter Lucinda “Lucky” in 2019. Though the couple divorced in 2020 after ten years of marriage, they remain committed to co-parenting.
In a 2019 interview, Scorsone discussed the ‘joy and chaos of motherhood,’ emphasizing the need for humor in parenting. “You kind of have to develop your sense of humor and just laugh at all of the places where you thought that you were protecting your ego because it’s done,” she explained.
Pippa, who was born with Down syndrome, has inspired Scorsone to become a passionate advocate for children with cognitive disabilities. In October 2020, she reflected on this journey, stating, “Her difference lit a match in my life and in the life of my family.”

Eliza, born on July 6, 2012, was delivered at home in Los Angeles with the assistance of midwives. Her parents expressed immense joy, stating, “We couldn’t be more in love with her and are overflowing with gratitude for this beautiful miracle.”
Though Eliza has appeared with her mother in media, she is more focused on entrepreneurial goals than a future in entertainment. Scorsone mentioned a recent birthday gift for Eliza: a bank account to emphasize the importance of financial independence. “She saves her allowance, she knows how to use a banking app, and now she’s interested in starting a business,” Scorsone noted.
Eliza has also taken up horseback riding, often visiting friend and Grey’s Anatomy co-star Kevin McKidd’s farm for lessons. “Some of our best conversations have been in the car,” Scorsone reflected, valuing the time spent during their hour-and-a-half drives to the farm.

Pippa was born on November 4, 2016, a birth announced by Scorsone with an Election Day-themed post on social media. As a child with Down syndrome, Pippa’s presence has significantly impacted Scorsone’s parenting perspective. Reflecting on her initial fears, Scorsone said, “I looked at the tiny baby who would grow into my funny, stubborn, beautiful little Pippa, and I saw how limited my life had been until that moment.”
Scorsone acknowledges the uncertainties that come with raising Pippa, affirming, “Pippa is perfect exactly as she is.” She has also taken an active role in educating Eliza about Pippa’s diagnosis, explaining that developmental differences are simply a matter of timing.
Lucinda "Lucky" Giles, 6

Lucky was born on December 13, 2019, initially named Arwen before the family decided to change her name to Lucinda. While Scorsone and Giles filed for divorce less than a month after the renaming, they affirmed their commitment to co-parenting.
Describing Lucky, Scorsone stated, “Lucky might be my most chill baby.” She enjoys spending time in the garden and has developed a strong personality, demonstrating resilience alongside her two elder sisters.
Scorsone emphasizes the importance of one-on-one time with each child. “It’s more peaceful. If we spend an entire weekend as one pack, there’s a lot of fighting and crying,” she shared, highlighting her intention to foster individual relationships with each daughter.
