Candidates for Los Angeles Mayor and California Governor Face Off in Debates
On Wednesday night, candidates for Los Angeles mayor and California governor participated in back-to-back debates at the Skirball Cultural Center, addressing pressing issues facing the city and the state. The live events were co-hosted by NBC Los Angeles and Telemundo 52.
The one-hour debates covered topics such as wildfires, immigration, homelessness, public safety, and quality of life—critical issues voters will consider in the upcoming June primary election, where the top two candidates will advance to a runoff in November.
The mayoral debate featured incumbent Karen Bass alongside her challengers: former reality TV star Spencer Pratt and Councilmember Nithya Raman.
In the gubernatorial debate, candidates included former U.S. Health Secretary and former State Attorney General Xavier Becerra (D), Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco (R), Fox News host Steve Hilton (R), San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan (D), former Congresswoman Katie Porter (D), environmental advocate Tom Steyer (D), and former Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa (D).
