Cannes: Losange Films Shares Teaser for Manuela Martelli’s New Film ‘Meltdown’ in Un Certain Regard Category
Set against the backdrop of Chile in 1992, a period marked by the transition from Pinochet’s 17-year dictatorship, the narrative follows 9-year-old Inès. During a stay at her grandparents’ secluded hotel near an Andean ski resort, she forms a bond with Hanna, a teenage German skier. When Hanna mysteriously disappears, the ensuing search uncovers buried secrets.
Losange Films, based in Paris and overseeing international sales, has released a teaser that captures the film’s captivating mountain setting and its intriguing ambiance.
Director Manuela Martelli is familiar with the Cannes Film Festival, having premiered her first feature, 1976, in the Directors’ Fortnight section in 2022. The film, which portrayed a woman who shelters a young, wounded resistance member during the Pinochet regime, garnered attention on an extended festival circuit, including stops at San Sebastián and the BFI London Film Festival.
Before her success with 1976, Martelli participated in the Chile Factory program of Directors’ Fortnight, where she co-directed the short film Marea alongside Amirah Tajdin. This film premiered in a parallel section and subsequently appeared at festivals such as Sundance and the New York Film Festival.
Meltdown is produced by Alejandra García of Ronda Cine (Chile), Alex C. Lo from Cinema Inutile (U.S.), and Andrés Wood at Wood Producciones (Chile), in cooperation with Elastica Films (Spain), Piano (Mexico), and Fundación Río (Chile).
