California Animal Rescue: 400 Dogs and 300 Cats Saved in Lake Hughes
Over 700 Dogs and Cats Rescued in Historic LA County Animal Seizure
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. — In a significant animal rescue operation, authorities reported the rescue of approximately 700 dogs and cats from a property in Lake Hughes on Friday morning. This operation may represent the largest animal seizure in U.S. history.
The Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) executed a search warrant around 7 a.m. at a residence located on the 46000 block of 266th Street West. The animals were under the care of Christine De Anda, affiliated with Rock N Pawz animal rescue, and the warrant was issued due to alleged violations of animal welfare laws.
Upon arriving at the scene, officials discovered around 400 dogs and 300 cats. Veterinary staff were on-site to assess the animals, triaging those in need of urgent medical attention and transporting them to animal care centers for further treatment.
More than 70 personnel, including representatives from spcaLA, Pasadena Humane, and Kern County Animal Services, were present to assist in the operation. Additional support from Public Works and Public Health was also available as investigations into other potential violations continued.
DACC officials highlighted the strain this unprecedented rescue has placed on their resources and housing capabilities. In response, the department is collaborating with various rescue and animal welfare agencies to facilitate adoptions and find homes for the rescued animals.
To assist with these efforts, all DACC animal care centers will operate extended hours on Sunday, March 22, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
