Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum hinted on Thursday, May 7, that the K-pop group BTS may return to Mexico in 2027. This announcement followed their recent visit to the National Palace, where the group greeted approximately 50,000 fans, according to official figures.
Sheinbaum made the revelation during her morning press conference, showcasing a video of herself alongside BTS members within the presidential halls.
“In Spanish, she asked, ‘For all the BTS ARMY and for all the young people of Mexico, do you want to come back next year to Mexico?’” to which BTS responded in unison, “Sí!”
Sheinbaum noted that further details regarding the potential visit would be shared later, emphasizing that their recent meeting was just an initial contact.
The president expressed her gratitude to her South Korean counterpart, President Lee Jae Myung, for facilitating the meeting, stating she would send a letter to thank him for his support. “Without him, it wouldn’t have been possible,” Sheinbaum emphasized.
BTS’s appearance at the National Palace has garnered international attention. The group addressed fans in both Spanish and English before an enthusiastic crowd at Zócalo, the country’s main public square, which sparked applause, smiles, and even tears.
As part of their ARIRANG tour, BTS performed three concerts at Mexico City’s GNP Seguros Stadium on May 7, May 9, and May 10. Promoter Ocesa reported that tickets for the sold-out shows sold out in less than an hour, totaling over 136,000 sold.
Sheinbaum has shown her support for Mexico’s BTS ARMY. After ticket sales quickly sold out, she sent a letter to her South Korean counterpart in January requesting more concerts in the country. Three weeks later, she announced that the South Korean government had communicated her request to HYBE, which manages the supergroup.
BTS is currently on tour to support their new album, ARIRANG, which is expected to continue through 2027, concluding in Manila, Philippines on March 14.
