Beckham Family Trademark Drama
- The trademarks of the four Beckham children’s names are under scrutiny amid family tensions.
- David and Victoria Beckham are parents to four children: Brooklyn Peltz Beckham, Romeo Beckham, Cruz Beckham, and Harper Beckham.
- Records from the U.K.’s Intellectual Property Office reveal that Victoria owns the trademarks of all four children’s names, though a family source claims this is a “misunderstanding.”
The trademarks associated with the names of the Beckham children—Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper—are now questioned amid reported family discord. On January 19, Brooklyn Beckham, 26, alleged in a dramatic Instagram post that his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, attempted to “bribe” him into relinquishing the rights to his name. This assertion came alongside reports that Victoria Beckham, 51, holds the trademarks for the names of all four children.
Documents from the U.K.’s Intellectual Property Office show Victoria secured these trademarks in December 2016, obtaining them while her children were minors. A source close to the family explained that when children are not legally able to file for their own trademarks, a parent typically takes on that responsibility. “Brooklyn and his brothers, who are now all over 18, own their trademarks, and Brooklyn manages his with his own team,” the source stated.

The trademarks were officially registered the following year and are set to expire this December. To hold a trademark, an individual must be able to own property, as noted by The Times. Once Brooklyn, 23, and Cruz, 20, reached adulthood, they could request ownership of their names. Prior to that, they relied on Victoria’s approval for any commercial dealings related to their names, while Harper, at age 14, is still under her mother’s guardianship.
The brands associated with these trademarks cover a wide range of products and services, from cosmetics to apparel, and much more. The tension within the Beckham family reportedly intensified after Brooklyn’s wedding to Nicola Peltz in April 2022. During his Instagram statement, Brooklyn alleged that his parents pressured him to sign legal documents prior to the wedding, details of which he did not disclose. “They were adamant on me signing before the wedding date because then the terms of the deal would be initiated. My holdout affected the payday, and they have never treated me the same since,” he wrote.

Brooklyn also expressed concerns about the impact of “signing away the rights to my name,” believing it could affect him, his wife, and potential future children. While Victoria and David Beckham have yet to publicly address their son’s allegations, a source indicated that they are eager to mend their relationship with Brooklyn. “They are afraid of losing their son and would take him back in a minute,” the insider reported. Despite this, Brooklyn has stated that he does not wish to “reconcile” with his family at this time.
