Broncos Beat Bills in Overtime to Move On to AFC Championship Game
DENVER — The Denver Broncos secured a thrilling 33-30 victory over the Buffalo Bills in a dramatic overtime showdown on Saturday, propelling them into the AFC Championship game. Ja’Quan McMillian’s pivotal interception of Josh Allen’s deep throw marked a decisive moment, allowing quarterback Bo Nix to guide the team into position for Wil Lutz’s 24-yard field goal.
McMillian’s interception, the fifth takeaway for the Broncos during the game, occurred at the Broncos’ 20-yard line, just as Buffalo was poised to win with a field goal.
With this win, the Broncos (15-3) are set to face either the New England Patriots or the Houston Texans for the AFC title next Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High, where they have claimed victory in 14 of their last 15 home games.
The Bills (13-6) were penalized twice for pass interference on Denver’s final drive, which set the stage for a dramatic finish. Former Broncos kicker Matt Prater converted a 50-yard field goal with just five seconds remaining in regulation, tying the game at 30. Earlier, Nix had thrown a 26-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Mims Jr., giving Denver a brief 30-27 lead with 55 seconds left.
Allen’s performance was marked by two interceptions and two fumbles, ending a streak of six playoff games without a turnover. Notably, Nik Bonitto’s strip-sacks contributed to Allen’s struggles, while P.J. Locke’s interception halted the quarterback’s consecutive postseason completion streak at 204.
