Bridgerton Welcomes Tega Alexander, Jacqueline Boatswain, and Gemma Knight Jones to Season 5 Cast
New Cast Announced for Upcoming Season of Bridgerton
Tega Alexander, Jacqueline Boatswain, and Gemma Knight Jones are the latest additions to Netflix’s celebrated Regency-era romantic drama, Bridgerton, for its highly anticipated fifth season. Currently in production in London, the upcoming season will center around the love story of Francesca Bridgerton, portrayed by Hannah Dodd, and Michaela Stirling, played by Masali Baduza.
Season 5 takes place two years after the death of Francesca’s husband, John. The introspective Bridgerton daughter decides to reenter the marriage market, driven by practical considerations. However, her plans become complicated with the return of John’s cousin, Michaela, who arrives in London to manage the Kilmartin estate, prompting Francesca to reevaluate her emotional desires.
Alexander will portray Christopher Anderson, a charming Regency-era Casanova who poses a formidable challenge to the existing Bridgerton bachelors. Beneath his playful demeanor lies a current of self-doubt that threatens to unravel him. The son of Lord Anderson, Christopher is poised to make a significant impact on society, one way or another.
Boatswain is cast as Helen Stirling, Michaela’s spirited mother. Helen strives to guide her daughter through the challenges of London’s social season with a blend of energy and tough love. Jones joins the cast as Lady Elizabeth Ashworth, an old friend and confidante to Michaela. While Elizabeth exudes charm, she also possesses a grounded realism, well-versed in the unspoken rules of high society.
Bridgerton embraces Francesca as its focal point for Season 5, with plans for her sister Eloise, played by Claudia Jessie, to take center stage in Season 6.
The season consists of eight episodes and is executive produced by Jess Brownell, who serves as showrunner, alongside Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Tom Verica, and Chris Van Dusen.
