High School Basketball Championships Update
City Section Results
On Friday, the City Section championships showcased exciting matchups across various divisions.
Boys’ Basketball
At Southwest College in the Open Division, top-seeded Palisades secured a decisive victory over second-seeded Cleveland, winning 75-56. In Division II, third-seeded Sylmar defeated fourth-seeded King/Drew with a score of 70-64. Meanwhile, at Birmingham High in Division V, second-seeded Canoga Park narrowly topped first-seeded Van Nuys, finishing 43-38.
Girls’ Basketball
The girls’ games at Birmingham High saw second-seeded North Hollywood edge out top-seeded Harbor Teacher, 59-55, in Division II. At Southwest College in Division III, first-seeded Washington Prep dominated second-seeded Gardena, with a final score of 45-30. At Garfield High in Division IV, number 12 seed Wilmington Banning triumphed over 11-seed Bravo, winning 39-33. In Division V, second-seeded Legacy narrowly defeated ninth-seeded Los Angeles, ending with a score of 33-32.
On Saturday, boys’ teams competed at Pasadena City College, where top-seeded Granada Hills defeated second-seeded Chatsworth, 59-51 in Division I. In Division III, tenth-seeded Verdugo Hills stunned top-seeded RFK Community, winning 62-42. Division IV saw second-seeded Franklin claim victory over fifth-seeded San Fernando, 69-55.
For the girls, at the same venue in the Open Division, top-seeded Westchester prevailed over second-seeded Birmingham, 60-37. In Division I, second-seeded Granada Hills Kennedy secured a win against first-seeded El Camino Real, finishing 54-31.
Southern Section Results
In the Southern Section, Friday’s boys’ games at Azusa Pacific included Colony defeating Trabuco Hills 51-44 in Division 4 and Gardena Serra overcoming Pilibos 57-51 in Division 5.
The girls’ competitions held at Toyota Arena featured La Salle winning against Valencia 51-35 in Division 1, and Crescenta Valley beating Saugus 51-43 in Division 2. In Division 3, St. Margaret’s triumphed over Murrieta Valley, 57-41. At Azusa Pacific, El Dorado beat La Canada 41-27 in Division 4, while Savanna took down Warren 46-25 in Division 6.
Saturday’s boys’ games at Toyota Arena highlighted Sierra Canyon’s narrow win against Harvard-Westlake 59-53 in the Open Division. Crean Lutheran also topped JSerra, 59-52 in Division 1, while Bishop Amat bested Hesperia 71-48 in Division 2.
At Azusa Pacific, Laguna Hills earned a significant victory over Ramona 78-51 in Division 6, and Rialto defeated Salesian 57-31 in Division 7. Victor Valley capped off the day with a 78-45 win against South El Monte in Division 8.
In the girls’ matches at Toyota Arena, Sierra Canyon defeated Ontario Christian 69-62 in the Open Division. Division 8 saw Schurr secure a 44-32 victory over Orange. At Azusa Pacific, Bishop Diego edged out Burbank Burroughs 42-41 in Division 5, while La Palma Kennedy overcame Laguna Hills 55-28 in Division 7. Sierra Vista also claimed a win, finishing 52-42 against Desert Hot Springs in Division 9.
