Bosch: Start of Watch Welcomes Raphael Sbarge, Seamus Dever, and Ryan McPartlin to the Cast
New Additions to the Cast of MGM+ Series ‘Bosch: Start of Watch’
The MGM+ series Bosch: Start of Watch has expanded its cast with the addition of six new actors, including Raphael Sbarge (Task), Seamus Dever (Castle), Kenneth Miller (Presumed Innocent), Marco Rodriguez (Nightcrawler), Rafi Gavron (A Star Is Born), and Ryan McPartlin (Chuck).
Set in 1991 Los Angeles, the prequel is based on Michael Connelly’s bestselling Bosch book series. It chronicles the early days of 26-year-old Harry Bosch, played by Cameron Monaghan, as a rookie cop navigating a city rife with racial tension, gang violence, and a fractured LAPD. Amidst his routine calls, Bosch becomes embroiled in a high-profile heist and a network of criminal corruption, challenging his loyalty to the badge and establishing his future as a detective. He lives by the principle: “Everybody counts or nobody counts.”
In this new installment, Dever portrays Officer Hastings, known as “Mr. Fix It,” a blunt training officer for probationary officers. Miller will take on the role of Fremlin, a diligent crew member of Cory (played by JD Pardo), who completes tasks without questions as long as the payday is sufficient. McPartlin appears as Detective Mike Garner, a stubborn member of the CRASH unit who swiftly confronts Bosch for overstepping his boundaries.
Sbarge will play Sergeant “Sunshine” Finn, a meticulous officer whose exacting standards instill fear among rookies. Rodriguez joins as Max Vargas, a grizzled ex-con whose recent release from prison poses challenges for his son, Corey. Gavron takes on the role of Restrepo, Cory’s loyal confidant, known for his sharp insights and willingness to confront unsettling truths.
The series also features Omari Hardwick as Eli Bridges, Bosch’s training officer; Ariana Guerra as Rosa, a rookie LAPD officer; Pardo as Cory, a professional thief; Azita Ghanizada as Stacy, an ambitious lawyer; William Fichtner as Calhern, a former defense attorney-turned power broker; and Kathleen Wilhoite as Helen, Bosch’s dedicated foster mother.
Bosch: Start of Watch does not directly adapt any specific source material from Connelly’s novels, as the author has not written a prequel. Instead, the storyline draws from various hints regarding Bosch’s early years featured throughout the series, which Connelly refers to as “uncharted character territory.”
Produced by Fabel Entertainment, the series is co-created and executive produced by Tom Bernardo and Brian Anthony, with Bernardo acting as showrunner. Connelly, Henrik Bastin, Jamie Boscardin, Martin, and Jasmine Russ also contribute as executive producers, while Theresa Snider co-executive produces for Hieronymus Pictures. Mark Douglas serves as a co-executive producer, and Seth Yanklewitz is the casting director.
Dever is represented by Metropolitan Talent Agency, Bret Adams Agency, and Vault Entertainment. Miller is repped by agent Joseph Le and Matt Sherman Management. McPartlin is represented by Mosaic/CESD Talent Agency, and Sbarge is backed by Main Title Entertainment and BRS/Gage. Rodriguez is represented by Ellis Talent Group and Mills Kaplan Entertainment. Gavron is repped by Gersh, Affirmative Entertainment, and Emptage Hallett in the UK, along with Brecheen Feldman Breimer Silver & Thompson.
