Boris Johnson’s Journey from Number 10 to the Frontlines of the Ukraine-Russia Conflict
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to take on a new role, traveling to the frontlines of the Ukraine-Russia conflict for an upcoming documentary.
Paramount’s UK network 5 has commissioned a feature-length documentary titled Boris Johnson: Into the Kill Zone. The film will be produced by Soho Studios and Two Rivers Media, known for their collaborative projects.
In this documentary, Johnson will embark on an unofficial and secret 72-hour trip through war-torn Ukraine, extending past the capital, Kyiv, to engage with the realities of the ongoing conflict.
Upon his entry into Ukraine, Johnson will head toward the ‘kill zone’ near Zaporizhzhia, an area where he will encounter the harsh realities of war, including drones and artillery. The former Prime Minister plans to spend time with Ukrainian soldiers, visiting devastated villages, a frontline chapel, secret drone bases, and a makeshift bomb factory.
During his visit, Johnson will also shelter in an under-siege apartment building amid a missile strike and join mobile gun teams and volunteer air defense units in Kyiv for a night shift aimed at protecting the capital from Russian drone attacks.

Johnson’s tenure as Prime Minister from 2019 to 2022 was marked by controversy, often polarizing British public opinion. His approach to Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic led to divisions within the country and his own party. However, Johnson’s steadfast support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and opposition to the Russian invasion has remained unwavering.
Guy Davies, Consultant Editor for Commissioning at Paramount’s 5, remarked, “Boris takes us on a traumatic and revelatory journey in this documentary. It is clearly a cause that is close to his heart, and we see him in a new light—no longer looking at the war from the statesman’s perspective, away from the frontline, but in the trenches and more able to speak freely.”
Johnson expressed, “The Ukrainians are fighting the same war, against the same drones, that are being sent against civilians by the same alliance of tyrannies. We have spent four years psalming platitudes and telling them that their fight is our fight. On the basis of what I have seen, we are risibly failing to live up to our pledges and to give them the help they need.”
He added, “The Ukrainians can win and will win. But our delay and our timidity continue to cause unimaginable human suffering. We are right to say that the Ukrainians are fighting for all of us—so why the hell are we still short-changing them?”
Johnson’s access to Ukraine was facilitated in collaboration with Daily Mail foreign correspondent Richard Pendlebury. The documentary is co-produced by Pantheon Media Group’s Soho Studios and Two Rivers Media, in association with Daily Mail Originals. Sphere Abacus acquired the international distribution rights, with Davies serving as the 5 commissioner.
Ian Lamarra, founder of Soho Studios, stated, “Seeing a recent British Prime Minister on the frontline of a conflict, with his life in genuine danger, is extremely powerful. I think this will be the talked-about doc of the year and make worldwide headlines as it sells internationally.”
Alan Clements, Managing Director of Two Rivers, expressed excitement about co-producing this significant documentary, noting it will offer a unique perspective on the war in Ukraine.
Soho Studios and Two Rivers have collaborated on several successful projects in the past, including Travels With Agatha Christie and Sir David Suchet, Special Forces: Most Daring Missions, and Britain’s Murder Map.
