Bobby Lee Signs Hulu Deal for His First Stand-Up Special After 30 Years in Comedy
EXCLUSIVE: Bobby Lee has secured a deal to produce his first-ever stand-up special for Hulu.
Although a logline or release date has not been announced, this special represents a milestone in Lee’s career spanning over 30 years in comedy. The special will also be available on Disney+ domestically for bundle subscribers, as well as on Disney+ internationally.
Lee is set to film the special this weekend at the Balboa Theater in his hometown of San Diego, California. North Hill Productions will handle production, with Louis Katz directing. Lee is also taking on an executive producer role alongside Bill Burr and Mike Bertolina.
Despite his extensive experience in comedy, Lee has previously shared his anxieties about creating his first special. In a conversation on The Joe Rogan Experience, he noted, “The reason why I haven’t done a special is because of the fear of doing new sh*t. It’s shameful.”
However, Lee has confronted these fears, continuing to build on his diverse career as a stand-up comic, actor, and podcaster. He is currently known for co-hosting Bad Friends and Tiger Belly, two of the leading comedy podcasts worldwide. Lee spent eight seasons on Mad TV from 2001 to 2009 and has had consistent roles in film and television, including Splitting Up Together and Animal Practice. Recently, he appeared in And Just Like That…, Magnum P.I., and Reservation Dogs.
Hulu has recently showcased its commitment to comedy, with Kumail Nanjiani receiving his first Golden Globe nomination for his special, Night Thoughts. Upcoming specials on the platform will feature talents like Nikki Glaser, Lisa Ann Walter, and Hannah Berner.
Bobby Lee is represented by CAA, Leviton Management, and Schreck Rose Dapello.
