Black Ops Co-Creator Shares Exciting Updates on American Version and Ideal U.S. Leads
Discussions for an American adaptation of the popular BBC comedy-thriller Black Ops are underway, according to co-creator and star Akemnji Ndifornyen. “Things are bubbling,” he remarked, hinting at the potential for a Hollywood remake during the BBC Comedy Festival.
While remaining coy about specific details, Ndifornyen acknowledged ongoing conversations about the project. “I don’t really want to speak to stuff but things are bubbling,” he stated.
Ndifornyen also humorously noted that he thinks about an American version “all the time… because of money.”
Created in collaboration with co-star Gbemisola Ikumelo, Black Ops stars Hammed Animashaun and follows two police community support officers who join the Greater London Police as undercover operatives.
The show has quickly gained popularity and was recently renewed for a third season. Hulu has acquired the rights for Season 1 in the U.S., set to be available in late 2024.
When discussing potential casting for an American version, Ndifornyen suggested that “a rapper, any West Coast rapper,” would suit his character Tevin, while Ikumelo proposed actress Keke Palmer, known for her roles in Hustlers and Pimp.
The duo made these remarks at the BBC Comedy Festival in Liverpool, following a presentation by James Corden and Ruth Jones.
