Birmingham High Senior Henry Aslikyan Aims for Fourth Consecutive City Section Wrestling Championship
BIRMINGHAM—Birmingham High senior Henry Aslikyan is set to compete for his fourth consecutive City Section wrestling championship this Saturday night at Roybal. Should he succeed, he would be the first athlete from Birmingham to secure four individual titles.
Since joining the team as a freshman, Aslikyan has shown remarkable growth and skill in the sport. He has garnered attention for his dominance in the City lower weight classes and has already earned the title of two-time state champion.
Aslikyan will face off in one of the state’s most competitive weight classes, the 120 pounds division. He has committed to the University of Michigan, and in just two weeks, he will head to Bakersfield, where this weight class is expected to feature three state champions.
Birmingham has previously claimed City titles in both boys’ and girls’ duals competitions. This year, Aslikyan is not only vying for the individual championship but also aiming to qualify for the state championships in Bakersfield.
In the girls’ wrestling category, Adelaida Fernandez is pursuing her third consecutive City title, while teammates Greg Torosian and Arno Vardanyan also seek their third titles in the boys’ division.
In the heavyweight division, Monroe’s Abraham Datte stands out as a two-time City champion, further adding to the competitive landscape.
