Betul Yazici from ‘Below Deck Down Under’ Shares Surprising Story About Her Father’s Unique Marriages
Betul Yazici Discusses Family Challenges on Below Deck Down Under
In a recent episode of Below Deck Down Under, deckhand Betul Yazici opened up about her complex family dynamics, revealing that her estranged father was married to three women at the same time. This disclosure came during the February 23 episode of the popular Bravo series, where Betul struggled to navigate the various accents among her colleagues.
During a candid conversation with Captain Jason Chambers, Betul expressed her feelings of inadequacy. "In my family, I have people around me who always think I am not smart enough to understand," she said. "That voice is always there and I don’t want to drown in those voices."
In a confessional segment, Betul elaborated on her upbringing, stating, "Growing up, the dynamics in my family were not stable. I never felt like I had a father. He was married to three women at the same time and was narcissistic." She added that her mother left when she was nine, leading to a cycle of violence that ultimately resulted in her disconnect from her parents. "But I teach myself everything," she noted.
Season 4 of Below Deck Down Under, which began airing earlier this month, features Captain Jason navigating the Katina in the Caribbean with an ensemble cast that includes Ben Robinson, Daisy Kelliher, and João Franco. They are joined by sous chef Alesia Harris and new crew members Joe Caron, Jenna Woudberg, Mike Durrant, and fellow deckhand Eddy Hounsell.
Recently, Jason described the challenges faced by the crew this season in an interview with Us Weekly. He mentioned that "everyone had their own little thing going on." Daisy, adapting to a new franchise, aimed to establish her authority after a difficult season, while João returned to the role of captain amid personal challenges. "There was so much tension there," Jason observed. "We were all in a personal challenge going into it."
The current season diverges from past seasons, with Jason emphasizing a shift in dynamics. "There’s a difference between the fighting that we’ve seen in the previous seasons to this one,” he explained. He acknowledged that the tensions among the crew stem from genuine personality and work-related issues, rather than trivial disputes.
Below Deck Down Under airs on Bravo Mondays at 8 p.m. ET, with new episodes available for streaming on Peacock the following day.
