Ben Affleck Playfully Compares His Fitness to Matt Damon’s for The Rip

At the New York City premiere of The Rip on January 13, 2026, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon exchanged light-hearted banter regarding their physiques. Affleck, showcasing his fit appearance, comically compared it to Damon’s while discussing their respective roles in two upcoming films.
Damon has garnered significant attention for his muscular build in The Odyssey, but it was Affleck who arguably stole the show during The Rip, particularly with his brief shirtless scene.
"You’re going to see my abs — you know, it’s about me, really," he jokingly remarked on the red carpet.
The playful exchange caught the attention of reporters. When one noted that Damon’s abs for The Odyssey looked "amazing," Affleck quipped, “Show ’em,” eliciting laughter from both actors.
When asked about a particular scene featuring Affleck’s shirtless moment, Damon speculated that Affleck was inspired by a photo of him filming The Odyssey, leading him to hit the gym for their film.
"I think he wrote that scene in because he saw that picture of me filming The Odyssey shirtless," Damon said.
Affleck humorously defended his fitness, stating, "You’re going to see my abs — you know, it’s about me, really," while also downplaying the difference in their physiques. He attributed some of his cinematic success to the work of cinematographer Juanmi Azpiroz, who adjusted the lighting on set, in contrast to the natural light Damon contended with during outdoor shoots.
"Just a little bit better," Affleck added, clarifying that their shapes were not vastly different.

Damon previously showcased his impressive physique during the filming of The Odyssey in March 2025. During a recent appearance on the New Heights podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce, he disclosed that he filmed the role at a notably light weight of 167 pounds, the lowest he’s been since high school. He also mentioned modifications to his diet, including cutting gluten.
"When I do that or when I do the Jason Bourne movies or whatever, it feels almost like a season," Damon reflected on the physical preparation involved in such roles. "It’s part of your job; you build your day around all that stuff."

In The Rip, Damon and Affleck portray Miami police officers who unearth a cache of cash at a stash house, leading them into a web of suspicion as the news of their find circulates. The film also stars Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, and Kyle Chandler.
