Donyelle Denise Wilson, widely known as Donyelle Jones, passed away on December 2 at the age of 46. The news was confirmed on her official Instagram page, indicating that she “transitioned” at 8:34 a.m.
Jones had been diagnosed with stage 3C breast cancer in 2016, a diagnosis that later progressed to stage 4 metastatic breast cancer.

In a heartfelt statement, she was remembered as “A wife. A daughter. A sister. A friend. And a warrior who kicked cancer’s ass every single day she was here.” It added, “Her spirit never dimmed. Her heart never hardened. And even in the storm, she never lost her smile.”
Donyelle gained fame during the second season of So You Think You Can Dance, which aired in the summer of 2006. Her vibrant hip-hop and jazz performances earned her a third-place finish in the competition, following winner Benji Schwimmer and runner-up Travis Wall.

Fox Entertainment has been contacted for comment regarding her passing.
Following her diagnosis, Jones actively shared her experiences on social media. She highlighted July 6, 2025, as the date she taught her first dance class in four years, describing it as a “bday gift to myself.” She expressed that the evening’s theme was “Love, Peace, Reassurance,” acknowledging the significant impact cancer had on her life and her dance journey.
In one of her final videos, posted just six days before her death, Donyelle revealed that she had begun to arrange her affairs and had done “everything possible to extend my time in this dimension,” ultimately surrendering to what she described as God’s will.
Hollywood figures, including actress Yvette Nicole Brown, expressed their condolences. In a tribute on Instagram, Brown referred to Jones as a “dear friend” and shared, “@donyelledenise8 was… no IS the best of us. One of one. We love you, Donnie! Thank you for showing us how to live and fight and love and DANCE! We will see you on the other side. I will be the one dancing towards you. Me and my two left feet! 😘❤️🕊️”

Los Angeles dance company LA Dance Magic also expressed grief over Jones’s passing, stating that her “passion for dance, her kindness, and her love for the people around her touched countless lives and left an impact we will always carry with us.”
