Fans of ENHYPEN are grappling with the recent announcement of HEESEUNG’s departure from the boy band, prompting widespread curiosity about the motivations behind his decision.
On March 10, BELIFT LAB revealed that the 24-year-old artist would be leaving the group to pursue a solo career while remaining signed to the label. HEESEUNG affirmed this in a handwritten letter to ENGENEs on Weverse. Social media quickly became a forum for fans expressing their concerns and questioning why HEESEUNG could not explore individual opportunities while still being part of ENHYPEN, especially given the successful dual careers of members from groups like BTS and BLACKPINK.
In response to the inquiries, BELIFT provided clarity on March 11, stating, “We concluded that allowing HEESEUNG to focus fully on his career as a solo artist, rather than pursuing solo activities within the team, would be the most fulfilling approach for both ENHYPEN and HEESEUNG.”
This sentiment echoed the label’s initial announcement via a post on X, which explained that extensive discussions occurred regarding ENHYPEN’s future direction and individual aspirations. The statement read, “Through those discussions, it became clear that HEESEUNG has his own distinct musical vision and we decided to respect it.”
The decision has stirred considerable emotion among ENGENEs. One fan lamented that their “heart is breaking into pieces” over the news, while another expressed confusion, recalling HEESEUNG’s recent comments about future plans to return to Europe.
ENHYPEN made its debut in 2020, featuring HEESEUNG alongside members JUNGWON, JAY, JAKE, SUNGHOON, SUNOO, and NI-KI. Earlier this year, the group notably topped Billboard‘s Top Artists chart for the first time and debuted at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart with THE SIN : VANISH.
In his letter to fans, HEESEUNG expressed heartfelt appreciation for his journey with the group, sharing that it is time for a new chapter. “The past six years have been filled with moments that are difficult to put into words — moments that were overwhelmingly meaningful, and incredibly precious to me,” he wrote. “As many of you know, I have continued working on personal projects, dedicating a lot of time to them with the hope that one day I could share them with you. There were so many things I wanted to show you, but at the same time, I didn’t want my own ambitions to come before the team.”
