Basement Returns with New Album After Eight Years and Shares Two New Songs to Listen To
British alternative rock band Basement has announced the release of their first new album in eight years, titled WIRED, set to debut on May 8th via Run For Cover Records. This marks a significant reunion with their original label, promising fans a return to the “unbridled passion and creative intuition that’s always animated their best material,” according to a press release.
The album consists of 12 tracks and reflects the band’s experiences with disillusionment in the music industry. Frontman Andre Fisher spoke candidly about this period, stating, “We were all left with a really weird, sour taste in our mouth after signing to a major label and having all these people control things.” This phase of their career ultimately led to the creation of WIRED.
The band has already shared two new tracks from the album: the title song “WIRED” and “Broken By Design.” The title track features a powerful hook and vibrant guitar riffs, echoing the energetic sound Basement is known for. In contrast, “Broken By Design” showcases a more introspective and melodic tone, demonstrating the band’s versatility.
Fisher explained the themes behind both songs. He described “WIRED” as addressing feelings of being controlled in ways beyond one’s comprehension, noting, “That no matter how hard you try to hide it, eventually it will come out – either by choice or by force.” He also shared that this song was nearly set aside during the writing process but ultimately became one of his favorites to perform and record.
Regarding “Broken By Design,” Fisher said it reflects the struggle of giving one’s best effort, only to recognize the inevitability of failure. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn and grow from such experiences, highlighting the band’s commitment to improving communication among members.
In support of WIRED, Basement will embark on a summer tour. The tour kicks off with a sold-out performance on June 5th at Rock Am Ring in Nürburg, Germany, and will conclude on August 29th at Canela Party in Torremolinos, Spain. The full tour dates are listed below.
