Avicii’s iconic track “Wake Me Up” has officially surpassed three billion streams on Spotify, as reported by the streaming service on February 9. This milestone positions the 2013 EDM/country anthem among an elite group of just 51 songs to achieve this streaming benchmark.
This latest achievement adds to the song’s impressive history, which began in February 2014 when it became the first song in Spotify’s history to reach 200 million streams. Notably, when “Wake Me Up” hit the two billion mark in 2023, Avicii became the first Swedish artist to reach that level of streams on the platform.
The track is widely recognized as a hallmark of the EDM era, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October 2013 and maintaining a remarkable 54-week presence on the chart. Featuring vocals from Aloe Blacc, it dominated the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart for 26 weeks, and spent a total of 55 weeks on that list.
True, which also featured the track “Hey Brother,” showcasing instrumentation by bluegrass artist Dan Tyminski.
Other songs achieving over three billion streams on Spotify include The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” Ed Sheeran’s “The Shape of You,” The Neighbourhood’s “Sweater Weather,” Daft Punk’s “Starboy,” and Harry Styles’ “As It Was.”
