In a recent discussion, vocal coach Eric Vetro shared insights into his collaboration with Ariana Grande for the film adaptations of Wicked and its sequel, Wicked: For Good. Vetro revealed that Grande’s generosity extended beyond her own preparation, as she actively supported other actresses vying for the same role.
Grande, who is 32, worked closely with Vetro, who is 69, to refine her portrayal of Glinda. However, her commitment to others in the audition process has also come to light. "She actually encouraged some of the other girls and said, ‘You really should go see Eric and work on it with him,’" Vetro recounts from his Los Angeles home. He recalled a moment where she even brought one of the auditioning actresses to his studio to sing together.

Vetro noted that Grande’s mother, Joan, was initially surprised by her daughter’s altruism in helping fellow actresses. "Her mom said, ‘Is she crazy? Why is she bringing people over for you to help them?’" Vetro recalled. He explained to Joan, "Well, because I think that’s just who she is. She’s very generous like that."
Further, Vetro remarked on Grande’s confidence, stating, "She was very confident in herself, too, but I think she also loved Wicked so much that she wanted the right person to get it." He expressed amazement at her supportive actions during a competitive audition process.
The vocal coach shared that he received inquiries from other actresses recommended by Grande to train with him. "I was like, ‘Damn, I can’t believe she’s encouraging other girls who are auditioning for this role,’" he said, emphasizing the depth of her character.
Ultimately, Grande secured the role of Glinda, earning a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at this year’s Academy Awards for her performance in the first installment of Wicked.

Vetro believes Grande’s supportive nature reflects her true character, stating, "She’s confident, but not arrogant. She’s confident, but not entitled. She’s just confident. But it’s a confidence that has been built by working hard."
He further noted the rarity of her humility, saying, "There is no ego involved with it, which is really unusual in a lot of ways and really special. And that’s what makes her so much fun to work with. Even though she works really hard and takes it seriously, she also is a lot of fun to be around. She has a great sense of humor."
