Ariana Grande Channels Carol Burnett in a 1973 Dress for Her Saturday Night Live Promotion
Ariana Grande showcased an eye-catching vintage look recently while promoting her upcoming hosting gig on Saturday Night Live, scheduled for December 20. In a video shared on social media, Grande dazzled in a vibrant yellow, orange, and brown chevron-striped dress by Bob Mackie, a design previously worn by the iconic Carol Burnett.
The dress featured a crisscross halter neck, a fitted bodice, and a flowing skirt. Grande completed her ensemble with a matching shawl, a gold ring, diamond stud earrings, and a chic French manicure. Her makeup, equally glamorous, included radiant foundation, bronzed cheeks, and expertly applied eye makeup with winged eyeliner and long lashes. Her signature dark hair was styled in a sleek updo, adding to the elegance of her overall appearance.
Alongside images of her outfit, Grande also posted a throwback photo of Burnett sporting the same dress in 1973 during an episode of The Carol Burnett Show, where she complemented the look with gold statement earrings. Grande captioned her post simply with “♡ 🌼,” drawing compliments from fans and fellow celebrities alike. Among those praising her style was her friend and former Victorious co-star Liz Gillies, who wrote, “Yes.” Other comments included enthusiasm from Daniella Monet and Rachel Zegler, both echoing their appreciation.
This isn’t the first time Grande has turned to vintage fashion for public appearances. Last month, she wore a striking black gown from 1952 by Adrian at the premiere of Wicked: For Good in London. The dress featured a one-shoulder neckline and an asymmetrical skirt adorned with sequins and ruffles. Grande also added a diamond necklace to elevate her look further.
Later that evening, Grande changed into another vintage gown for an afterparty, this time opting for a 1950s ball gown with a sheer neckline and a tulle overlay, embellished with white flowers and paired with platform heels by Christian Louboutin.
Ariana Grande is set to co-host Saturday Night Live with Cher, who will serve as the show’s musical guest. Grande’s previous hosting stint was in October 2024.
