Apple TV’s The Studio Tops Freshman Comedy Chart with BAFTA TV Win to End Awards Season
Apple TV’s critically acclaimed series The Studio has made history by becoming the most awarded freshman comedy ever, following a dominant performance across major award shows.
The series, featuring Seth Rogen, achieved a remarkable milestone at the BAFTA Television Awards this past weekend, becoming the first comedy to sweep all major awards in a single season. It triumphed at the Emmys, Golden Globes, Actor Awards, and Critics Choice, alongside significant wins at the Producers, Directors, and Writers guild ceremonies.
Additionally, The Studio made waves by winning in the International category at the BAFTAs, marking the first time a comedy has captured this honor in a decade and securing Apple TV’s inaugural victory in this category. At the Emmys, the show earned 13 wins, including Outstanding Comedy and Outstanding Lead Actor for Rogen, setting a new record. This series is among the select few to receive both the Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards for Best Comedy. Other accolades include the American Film Institute Award for TV Program of the Year and a sweep at the Actor Awards (formerly known as the SAG Awards).
During his acceptance speech for the International award, Rogen paid tribute to his late co-star and comedy legend, Catherine O’Hara. “It would be remiss of me not to mention Catherine O’Hara; she meant so much to us,” he stated. “I assume her work was as important to y’all over here as it was to us, so this is for Catherine.”
The Studio centers on Matt Remick (played by Rogen), a clumsy TV executive at the fictional Continental Studios, as he navigates the conflicting interests of cinema and corporate leadership. Production for Season 2 is currently underway.
