In a recent episode of the podcast Good Hang, Amy Poehler recounted a memorable flight incident involving a confrontation with a fellow first-class passenger. The episode aired on December 23 and featured her Mean Girls co-star Ana Gasteyer.
During the discussion, Gasteyer brought up the flight, recalling that Poehler "got into a fight with a guy" while they were traveling with Gasteyer’s baby, Frances, who is now 23 years old. Gasteyer vividly remembered how the man reacted to Poehler’s language, prompting her to comment, "I hope so, because the guy got mad that you were swearing in front of the baby."
Poehler confirmed the altercation, explaining, "But what happened was a guy — a first-class guy, which we were in first class too — was like, ‘Excuse me, I’m trying to [relax]. You’re being too loud.’” She humorously noted, "My Boston came out, let’s just say that," implying a fierce and protective side emerging during the exchange.
Gasteyer, who welcomed her daughter with husband Charlie McKittrick in June 2002, described the argument as "the best thing I’ve ever seen."

The conversation also touched upon their shared history in Mean Girls. Gasteyer fondly recalled a night they spent together in a hotel when Tina Fey expressed interest in adapting Rosalind Wiseman’s Queen Bees and Wannabees into a film. “I have a memory of [Fey] sitting at the table and saying, ‘I think I’m going to try to option this book. It’s incredible,’” Gasteyer shared.
The successful adaptation featured an ensemble cast, including Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert. Gasteyer portrayed the mother of Lohan’s character, while Poehler took on the role of McAdams’ Regina George’s mother.
Years later, in 2012, Gasteyer’s daughter joined her on-screen in Suburgatory. Frances, then 10, played a younger version of her mother’s character, Sheila Shay, in a flashback episode. Reflecting on this experience, Gasteyer commented that it was “one of the most special things” she could share with her daughter, who was thrilled to participate in the family legacy.
