Amy Madigan Shares Her Simple Secret to a Happy 40-Year Marriage with Ed Harris

At the New York Film Critics Circle Awards on January 6, actress Amy Madigan spoke about her 40-year marriage to Ed Harris, revealing insights into their relationship during a time when she is receiving acclaim for her performance in the horror film Weapons.
Madigan, 75, and Harris, also 75, have been married since 1983. She shared, “We just love each other and we work really hard at that and in our work.” Her remarks reflect the couple’s commitment to each other amidst their distinguished careers in Hollywood.
Madigan earned the Best Supporting Actress award at the event for her role as Aunt Gladys in Weapons, a film that explores the aftermath of several missing elementary school students. The character emerged as a fan favorite following the film’s release in August 2025.
“I’m very lucky,” Madigan said of her supportive family, highlighting Harris’s enthusiasm for her performance. “He loved it. He’s known me a long time and he saw all the parts of myself melded into Aunt Gladys.”

The couple shares a daughter, Lily, who is 32 and has started to carve out her own path in acting. Madigan expressed gratitude for the encouragement she receives from her family. “They’re just saying, ‘You can do it. Hang in there,’” she mentioned, reflecting on their support as she navigates awards season.
Madigan recently won the Critics Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress on January 4 and is also nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in Weapons. She remarked on the nature of such accolades, stating, “If you’re an actor, you wait for those opportunities and moments, so it just feels great.”
Additionally, Madigan is nominated for the Best Supporting Actress category at the 2026 Academy Awards, marking her first Oscar nomination.
