Amazon Announces Premiere Date for "American Gladiators" Reboot
Amazon Prime Video is set to launch its highly anticipated reboot of American Gladiators on April 17, featuring WWE star Mike “The Miz” Mizanin as host. The revamped physical competition series will debut with its first three episodes, followed by three additional episodes on April 24, and the final four episodes scheduled for release on May 1.
The announcement comes nearly two years after Amazon ordered the reboot of the iconic format, originally recognized as one of the first reality television shows. The original American Gladiators aired in syndication from 1989 until 1996, a creation of Johnny C. Ferraro and Dan Carr, who conceptualized the competitive format.
Ferraro returns as the creator and executive producer of the reboot, while Daniel Calin, known for his work on Iron Chef and Nailed It!, serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Barry Poznick, who recently exited Amazon MGM Studios yet will continue to executive produce select projects. Co-executive producers include Susan Janis-Mashayekhi, Sarah Happel Jackson, and Adam Cooper, with Ramy Romany on board as director.
This new iteration will feature 16 fresh American Gladiators competing in classic challenges like Joust, Powerball, Hang Tough, and The Wall, alongside new events such as The Ring and Collision. Contestants will vie for a grand prize of $100,000 and the title of American Gladiator Champion.
The Gladiators franchise has seen a resurgence in popularity, particularly in the UK, where a reboot aired on the BBC and has already been renewed for a fourth season.
