Amazon Announces Cast for Irish Young Adult Series ‘Boys of Tommen’ from the Makers of ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’
Prime Video has announced the cast for its upcoming young adult series, Boys of Tommen.
This romantic drama, produced by the team behind The Summer I Turned Pretty, features newcomer Nancy Surridge in the lead role of Shannon Lynch, a shy and enigmatic student at Tommen College. The cast also includes Conor Sánchez as Johnny Kavanagh, the college’s star rugby player; James O’Donoghue portraying the troubled yet loyal Joey Lynch; and Sophie McGibbon as the confident Aoife Molloy.
Set in Ballylaggin, Ireland, the series tells the story of the forbidden romance between Johnny and Shannon. Johnny faces the potential of a career-ending injury, while Shannon grapples with a difficult and tumultuous home life. As their connection deepens, the two students confront their respective challenges in a bid to help each other navigate their troubled worlds.
Boys of Tommen is adapted from the popular book series by Chloe Walsh. The adaptation is spearheaded by Poppy Cogan, known for A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, and is directed by Brendan Canty, with Ingrid Goodwin serving as series producer.
Cogan commented, “These characters have lived in the hearts and minds of millions of readers, and the response to them has been overwhelming, so finding the right cast was incredibly important. Chloe has created such a rich, emotionally vivid world in these books, and as the writer adapting this story for screen, it’s been a privilege to be entrusted with bringing that world to life.”
Earlier this year, the series received a green light for production. It is developed by global independent studio wiip in association with Amazon MGM Studios, with local production services provided by Metropolitan. The first season will adapt Walsh’s first two novels, Binding 13 and Keeping 13. Cogan joins an impressive lineup of executive producers, including Chloe Walsh, wiip’s Paul Lee, Hope Hartman, Sean Flanagan, Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, James Seidman, Annika Patten, and Greg Brenman and Deena Butt from Drama Republic.
