Amanda Seyfried has motherhood on her mind when it comes to her character from Mamma Mia!
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the Los Angeles premiere of The Testament of Ann Lee on December 14, Seyfried discussed her vision for Sophie’s life in a potential third installment of the beloved musical.
“Oh, with kids. I mean, I love being a mother,” the 40-year-old actress remarked, referencing both her role as Sophie and her own life. “I love playing a mother, and I would love to dive into the curiosities of motherhood and raising children on a Greek island — just like Donna did with Sophie.”
Meryl Streep famously played Sophie’s mother, Donna, in the 2008 film.

Discussing a potential storyline where Sophie embraces motherhood, Seyfried noted, “I think that would be really interesting. I have no idea where the story is going to go, but I know there’s going to be a lot of singing and dancing.”
She enthusiastically added, “I’m going to keep campaigning for that movie until I’m blue in the face.”
According to producer Judy Craymer, a script for Mamma Mia 3, which would follow 2018’s Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, has been completed and the film remains in development.
“Well, we know what we want to do with the movie, and it will happen,” Craymer said in a recent interview, hinting at the possibility of pop star Sabrina Carpenter joining the cast alongside Seyfried and Streep, who is now 76.

Seyfried and her husband, Thomas Sadoski, became engaged in 2016 and eloped in 2017. The couple resides on a farm with their children in upstate New York.
