In a recent interview, Williams, 37, shared with PEOPLE that she and Franco, 40, had almost worked together on various projects over the last decade. However, these opportunities never materialized until their casting in Regretting You.
“I’ve always wanted to work with him,” Williams remarked during an exclusive discussion at the film’s New York City screening in October. “We’ve been cast in a bunch of things that never came to fruition over the last 10 years,” she added, clarifying that they experienced several near-collaborations that ultimately fell through.

Williams noted that she “actually never met” Franco until they started filming Regretting You. She described their eventual collaboration as feeling almost fated. “It felt like fate that eventually we would get to work today,” she said.
Director Josh Boone confirmed the strong chemistry between Williams and Franco, stating that they not only connected well on-screen but also enjoyed a friendly rapport off-screen. “They had a great time,” said Boone, highlighting their “very similar temperaments.”

The anticipation for their collaboration seems to have been met with positive feedback. Franco, in a recent interview, praised Williams, expressing that he had “the best” time working with her and commending her versatility as an actress. “She’s so good at going back and forth between comedy and drama… the movie is very dramatic, but Allison is so funny naturally in real life,” he recalled.
Williams reflected similarly on the filming environment, describing it as “a very emotionally healthy place to work,” attributing this to the supportive atmosphere fostered by the director and crew.

“It felt like such a delight [working on Regretting You], and part of that is that Josh Boone, our director, set a positive tone for the whole crew,” Williams shared. She emphasized how the crew engaged in open communication each morning, contributing to a cohesive team environment, which she likened to a family.
“It just felt like everyone was very loving,” she added, reflecting on the supportive atmosphere that benefited the cast.
