Alison Brie’s Witness Protection Pilot at FX Won’t Move Forward
FX Decides Against Moving Forward with Alison Brie-Led Witness Protection Project
FX has confirmed it will not advance its pilot for the Untitled Witness Protection series, which starred Alison Brie. This decision halts the potential series from creators Hannah Fidell and Gina Welch.
Originally, the project was developed by David Chase, known for creating The Sopranos. However, Chase stepped away last year, leaving Fidell and Welch to refine the concept based on an unproduced script by Chase. The story revolves around a high-profile madam in Washington, D.C., who experiences a violent event that forces her to turn against her partner and seek refuge in witness protection in coastal Maine with her teenage daughter.
Brie joined the project in July, sharing the screen with a cast that included Pablo Schreiber, Zoë Chao, Jamie Neumann, Aidan Gillen, Ashley Thomas, and Finn Wittrock.
Fidell and Welch served as writers and executive producers, with Fidell also directing the pilot. Nicole Lambert executive produced for Chase’s Riverain Pictures.
The pilot was one of several drama projects FX ordered over the past year. Others included a spinoff of Snowfall featuring original cast members Gail Bean and Isaiah John, Seven Sisters, a family drama starring Elizabeth Olsen, Cristin Milioti, and J. Smith-Cameron, and Disinherited, created by Better Call Saul co-creator Peter Gould and featuring Victoria Pedretti and Kiera Allen. All three were successfully picked up to series.
As FX continues to innovate its lineup, the network is still working on Young Frankenstein, a new series inspired by Mel Brooks’ classic comedy, developed by the team behind What We Do in the Shadows.
