Alana Hadid Takes Executive Role in Documentary ‘Seeds for Liberation’
Alana Hadid has joined the production team of Seeds for Liberation as an Executive Producer. The documentary, directed by Matthew Solomon, known for Reimagining Safety, marks Hadid’s first film project after her departure from Watermelon Pictures last year.
Set to premiere in Los Angeles on January 17, 2024, Hadid will also host a panel discussion during the event. She will be joined by co-Executive Producer Donna Hadjikhani in this endeavor.
Seeds for Liberation utilizes two iPhone 16s to capture interviews with 20 influential figures over the spring and summer of 2025. The film aims to serve as an educational resource, exploring Palestinian resistance and its connections to global justice movements.
Key interviews include prominent voices such as human rights attorney Dr. Noura Erakat, investigative journalist Abby Martin, and physician Dr. Mimi Syed, along with representatives from the Black Liberation Army, La Raza Unida, and Stop Cop City. The film highlights the persistent ties of solidarity across decades, emphasizing the necessity of viewing liberation movements through an intersectional lens.
“Seeds for Liberation reminds us that Palestinians are not waiting to be spoken for,” Hadid stated. “We will liberate ourselves, with our own voices, our own history, and our own truth – alongside our allies. This film preserves our collective memory told by us, in our words.”
In addition to her role in film production, Alana Hadid is an activist, filmmaker, and writer. Previously serving as a creative director at Watermelon Pictures, she has also hosted The Seeds podcast and co-authored two upcoming books focused on Palestinian identity and history.
Following its Los Angeles premiere, Seeds for Liberation will embark on a North American tour, with scheduled screenings at the Lost River Film Fest 2026 in Texas, as well as events in Atlanta, Sacramento, and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
