Adam Sandler’s New Film ‘Time Out’ at Netflix Stars Willem Dafoe and a Talented Cast
Willem Dafoe and an Ensemble Cast Join Adam Sandler in Netflix’s ‘Time Out’
Willem Dafoe, Gaby Hoffmann, F. Murray Abraham, Steve Zahn, and Adam Horovitz will join Adam Sandler in the upcoming Netflix film, Time Out, directed by Scott Cooper. Cooper will also serve as the writer and producer, with Tracey Landon as executive producer.
The film is inspired by L’Emploi Du Temps by Laurent Cantet and Robin Campillo. It centers around Vincent (played by Sandler), who, after losing his job, struggles to communicate the truth to his wife and family. Instead of coming clean, he fabricates a web of lies about his situation. This deception escalates as he concocts an investment scheme, asking friends for contributions, leading to a crisis that threatens to engulf both his life and family.
"I first encountered Laurent Cantet’s film in 2001, and it’s lived with me ever since,” Cooper remarked. “I’ve been thinking about revisiting it for years, but now felt like the right moment — we’re living in a time where questions of identity, work, and self-worth have become impossible to ignore."
Following a successful fall promoting his dramedy Jay Kelly, which received strong critical acclaim, Sandler found himself with numerous project options. His recent work, Happy Gilmore 2, achieved record-breaking streaming numbers on Netflix. After a thoughtful deliberation during his comedy tour, he ultimately committed to Cooper’s script at the start of the year.
Once Sandler signed on, assembling the cast progressed swiftly. Production for Time Out is slated to commence next month.
Sandler is represented by WME; Dafoe is represented by WME and Circle Management + Production; Zahn is repped by UTA, Principal Entertainment LA, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern; Hoffmann is repped by Gersh, OPE Partners, and Peikoff Mahan; Abraham is repped by Innovative Artists; and Horovitz is represented by WME and Silva Artist Management.
