Sean Durkin Expands Cast for A24 Film "Deep Cuts"
Director Sean Durkin has announced the addition of four actors to the cast of his upcoming A24 film, Deep Cuts. Joining the project are Abubakr Ali, known for A House of Dynamite, Quintessa Swindell from Black Adam, Jennifer Jason Leigh, featured in The Hateful Eight, and Gaby Hoffmann, recognized for her role in C’mon C’mon.
While character details remain undisclosed, the film already boasts a talented lineup that includes Cailee Spaeny, Drew Starkey, and Ariela Barer.
Deep Cuts, adapted from Holly Brickley’s debut novel, is set in the 2000s and tells a love story about two music-obsessed twenty-somethings as they navigate the complexities of ambition, belonging, and adulthood during a transformative decade.
Durkin will direct from his own screenplay and will also serve as a producer alongside Central’s Eli Bush, Ronald Bronstein, Josh Safdie, Anthony Katagas, and Jordan Tappis, with A24. Original music for the film will be composed by Blake Mills.
Abubakr Ali is coming off a notable performance in Kathryn Bigelow’s A House of Dynamite and is also recognized for his roles in Power Book II: Ghost, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, and Katy Keene. He is set to appear in the upcoming film Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, directed by Bassam Tariq.
Quintessa Swindell has gained attention for her work in Apple TV’s Prime Target, HBO’s In Treatment, and Netflix’s Trinkets, in addition to films like Black Adam, Master Gardener, and Voyagers. Her upcoming projects include Mubi’s Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma.
Jennifer Jason Leigh, an Oscar nominee, recently appeared in Crime 101, Night Always Come, and Fargo. She is expected to star in Netflix’s horror drama series Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen, set for release later this week, along with Prime Video’s Bishop and the indie film New England Toys.
Gaby Hoffmann, who has recently appeared in Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, The Mastermind, and Netflix’s Eric, also continues to build her diverse portfolio in various projects.
As anticipation builds for Deep Cuts, the film is set to explore the intertwining themes of music and personal growth during a pivotal decade.
