A first look at Kit Harington in costume has been revealed for the upcoming MGM+ and BBC adaptation of A Tale of Two Cities.
This four-part limited series brings to life Charles Dickens’ classic novel, featuring Harington—known for his roles in Industry and Game of Thrones—as well as François Civil (Beating Hearts, The Three Musketeers) and Mirren Mack (Miss Austen, Hedda). The series is penned by Daniel West (Gunpowder, Top Boy) and directed by Richard Clark (Outlander).
A Tale of Two Cities is a co-production involving Federation Stories, Federation Studio France, and Thriker Films, specifically for MGM+ and the BBC. Executive Producers include Polly Williams and Sarah Best for Federation Stories, Léo Becker for Federation Studio France, and both Kit Harington and Daniel West for Thriker Films. Simon Meyers, known for I May Destroy You, joins as producer.
According to the official synopsis, set in London in 1782 amidst rising tensions between France and Britain, the story follows Lucie Manette (Mirren Mack) as her life takes a dramatic turn. She receives news that her father, believed dead for nearly two decades, may still be alive. Charles Darnay (François Civil), the messenger of this shocking revelation, faces arrest on treason charges.
To secure Darnay’s release, Lucie turns to the talented yet unpredictable lawyer Sydney Carton (Kit Harington). Their intertwined fates create a complex love triangle, as both men vie for Lucie’s affection, unaware of how deeply their lives are intertwined. The drama unfolds as they navigate themes of love, sacrifice, and the weight of their choices.
This series will broadcast on MGM+ in the United States and the BBC in the United Kingdom.
