John Forté was both an accomplished recording artist and a devoted family man. The Grammy-nominated musician passed away on January 12 in his home in Chilmark, Massachusetts, according to reports. Police pronounced him dead at the scene after his neighbor discovered him in his kitchen.
Chilmark Police Chief Sean Slavin remarked on the tight-knit nature of the community, stating, “It is such a small community, this death hits close to home. It’s the upside and the downside to living on such a small island.” He mentioned Forté had experienced a “serious health setback” due to a seizure approximately a year prior; however, the official cause of death has not been disclosed.
Forté met his wife, Lara Fuller, in 2015 and they married in March 2017. Their family grew with the birth of their daughter, Wren Zazie, later that year, followed by the arrival of their son, Haile Thayer, in 2020. Forté often expressed his love for fatherhood and cherished moments spent with his family.

Forté met Fuller during the summer of 2015 while both were on Martha’s Vineyard. They tied the knot on March 3, 2017. Fuller is a talented professional photographer, known for her work with couples and family portraits. She studied photojournalism at Boston University before transitioning to freelance photography.
Over the years, Fuller has shared several portraits of Forté and their children on social media.

Shortly after their marriage, Forté and Fuller welcomed their first child, daughter Wren Zazie Forté, on June 8, 2017. Reflected in a social media post, Forté noted, “She arrived 7 lbs and 2 oz. Mom and baby are thriving. So much love, gratitude and deep appreciation for this moment.”
Three years later, they welcomed son Haile Thayer Forté on June 16, 2020. Forté shared his joy in a social media post: “He and his mom are fine and well. WE are well. Wren Zazie is eager to meet her little brother. The sun is shining.” He further added, “Oh, yeah, I cried… like a baby.”
On Father’s Day 2020, Forté reflected on his newfound fatherhood, expressing, “Immediately after Haile Thayer entered the world, my brother reached out. He asked me how I felt. ‘My cup runneth over,’ I said. ‘Wren Zazie… and now HIM! Happy Father’s Day, Gentlemen. HAPPY Father’s Day.’
Forté often celebrated Fuller’s parenting, especially through heartfelt posts. For Mother’s Day 2020, he shared a photo of Fuller reading with Wren, stating, “Happy Mother’s Day to my friend, my partner, and my wife. I love her. I love my girl in the worst way.”

Both Fuller and Forté regularly documented their family life through photos. Before his passing, Forté made it a point to wish each child a happy birthday and posted numerous pictures capturing their growth over the years. The family traveled, laughed, and played together, creating lasting memories. In October 2020, Forté remarked on the scarcity of family photographs while sharing a smiling beach picture of the four of them, expressing gratitude for their time together.

Forté, originally from New York City, relocated to Martha’s Vineyard around 2015, captivated by the island’s charm after visiting in 1998. Following his meeting with Fuller, they chose to settle on the island and Forté continued nurturing his music career by building a recording studio in a neighbor’s basement. He gained recognition in the community for performing with local musicians and artists, including notable names like Carly Simon.
