Cooper welcomed his first child, Wyatt Morgan Maisani-Cooper, via surrogate on April 27, 2020. Just three days later, he revealed the news in a heartfelt Instagram post and on his CNN show. Wyatt is named after Cooper’s late father, Wyatt Emory Cooper, who passed away when Cooper was a child. The middle name, Morgan, honors a family name from Cooper’s mother’s side.
At birth, Wyatt weighed 7.2 pounds and was described by Cooper as “sweet, and soft, and healthy.” During a subsequent appearance on _The Late Show with Stephen Colbert_, Cooper shared that Maisani was present in the delivery room, emphasizing their ongoing family connection. “Even though we’re not together anymore … he’s my family, and I want him to be Wyatt’s family as well,” he stated.
In later interviews, Cooper reiterated the importance of providing a loving environment for Wyatt, expressing that he understood the challenges of growing up without a father and aimed to ensure his son is “surrounded by love.”
Cooper also noted that their co-parenting arrangement has been beneficial for Wyatt. He believes that having more people who love his son in his life is advantageous and referred to Maisani as a “great guy.” In 2021, he acknowledged that becoming a father was a “dream come true” and expressed his unyielding dedication to fatherhood.
At 13 months, Wyatt took his first steps while Cooper was abroad for work. Missing this milestone sparked a humorous reaction from Cooper, who stated, “My reaction was fury.” He recalled the moment he received a text from Maisani sharing the news of Wyatt’s accomplishment.
In 2022, Cooper confirmed that Maisani was in the process of adopting Wyatt, officially naming him Wyatt Morgan Maisani-Cooper. “We’re a family,” said Cooper, noting their respective roles as ‘Daddy’ and ‘Papa.’

On February 10, 2022, Cooper and Maisani welcomed their second son, Sebastian Luke Maisani-Cooper. The day after Sebastian’s birth, Cooper shared the joyful news on _Anderson Cooper 360_. He revealed that Sebastian weighed 6.8 pounds at birth and expressed gratitude toward the surrogate for her contributions.
He later shared that the experience of having a second child felt considerably less daunting, attributing his calmer demeanor to previous fatherhood experiences. Wyatt embraced his role as a big brother enthusiastically, even helping to build Sebastian’s crib.
Following Sebastian’s arrival, Cooper took time off work to fully immerse himself in family life, describing it as “the longest vacation” he had ever taken.
For Sebastian’s first birthday, Cooper posted a heartwarming video of his son playing with a music box that belonged to Cooper’s late mother, stating, “Sebastian is sweet and strong and smart and loves his big brother Wyatt a lot. They fill my heart with joy and love in a way I never imagined possible.”
Looking toward the future, Cooper remains open to the possibility of having more children, though no plans are in place at this time. For now, he cherishes his role as a father, a lifelong ambition he once thought might never be realized. “All my life, I’ve dreamed of having children,” he remarked, noting how parenthood brings a new level of perspective and joy.
