Frederik Louis Hviid and Tobias Lindholm Team Up for the Danish Thriller ‘Torpedo’ at SF Studios
Danish Directors Team Up for New Thriller ‘Torpedo’
SF Studios has announced a collaboration between acclaimed Danish directors Frederik Louis Hviid and Tobias Lindholm on their upcoming thriller, Torpedo.
The film centers on 16-year-old Kian, who finds himself in a precarious situation after mistakenly selling drugs to the wrong individuals. The burden of the mishap falls entirely on his shoulders. Faced with an urgent need to rectify his mistake, Kian hopes that a quick trip from Aarhus to Copenhagen to complete a minor job will resolve his troubles.
However, his circumstances take a dark turn when Kian realizes that he must commit a brutal murder, targeting a man backed by his support group. The stakes are high; refusal could place both his life and his family’s safety at risk.
SF Studios describes Torpedo as “a raw and uncompromising thriller about grooming, systematised violence, and how adult criminals create child soldiers in a world where the need for recognition and belonging can cost them everything.”
Hviid will direct the film based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Lindholm. Hviid emphasized the importance of understanding the implications of violence among youths who have not chosen their paths and may not fully grasp the repercussions of their actions. “This issue is rarely explored in Danish film, and thus our work on Torpedo has required extensive research to achieve a measure of truth,” he stated.
Hviid noted that collaborating with Lindholm, whom he considers a leading voice in Danish cinema, has been both inspiring and essential for capturing the story’s emotional depth and realism. Hviid gained international recognition with his gritty crime drama Shorta (2020), which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and was later distributed globally. He has since solidified his reputation through the award-winning series Prisoner (2023) and the heist film The Quiet Ones (2024), which debuted at the Toronto Film Festival.
Lindholm shared his emotional connection to the narrative, remarking that Hviid’s insights into the darker aspects of the Danish dream and the plight of children engulfed in crime resonate deeply with him. As a highly regarded screenwriter and director, Lindholm’s portfolio includes critically acclaimed works such as Thomas Vinterberg’s Oscar-winning Another Round and the miniseries The Investigation.
Torpedo is produced by SF Studios, with Marcella Dichmann attached as producer, and is expected to premiere in Danish cinemas in 2027. Dichmann expressed her motivation for the project, stating, “Torpedo is a film that has evolved from a deep concern for our children and youngsters. It is a painful story, but a necessary one. As a producer—and as a mother—I feel a strong need to create a space for reflection and understanding. This is fiction that mirrors our reality, and we aim to craft a touching and thrilling film that lingers long after audiences leave the theater.”
