György Pálfi’s Film ‘Hen’ Secures Domestic Distribution Deal at TIFF
Dekanalog Secures U.S. Rights to György Pálfi’s ‘Hen’ Following Recent Acquisitions
Dekanalog, a New York-based distribution company, has announced its acquisition of U.S. rights to the film Hen, directed by György Pálfi. This acquisition follows the distributor’s recent successes, including the Silver Bear-winning film The Blue Trail and four Independent Spirit nominations for Blue Sun Palace.
Hen, described as a "tragicomic thriller," centers on a Leghorn chicken that escapes from a chicken farm. The film will make its U.S. premiere in January at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, with plans for a theatrical release followed by Video on Demand (VOD) and physical distribution.
The story unfolds entirely from the hen’s perspective as she finds refuge in a dilapidated restaurant linked to a human smuggling operation. Throughout her journey, she discovers love, navigates a pecking order, and strives to protect her eggs from a greedy owner.
The film features a cast including Yannis Kokiasmenos, Maria Diakopanayotou, and Argyris Pandazaras, alongside eight Leghorn chickens playing the lead role. Pálfi co-wrote the film with Zsófia Ruttkay, while the hens were trained and cared for by Árpád Halász. Sales for the title are being managed by Lucky Number.
“We at Dekanalog have long admired Pálfi’s visionary work and are honored to take part in his latest cinematic adventure,” said Sam Wunderl, a partner at Dekanalog. “Hen is simultaneously an exciting thriller, a comic caper, and, for a story about a chicken, an unforgettable story about humanity. We cannot wait to bring it to U.S. screens next year.”
Pálfi has previously collaborated with Dekanalog on multiple U.S. releases and was honored in a retrospective series, I Will Not Be Your Friend: The Films of György Pálfi, hosted by the distributor in partnership with the Brooklyn Academy of Music last year.
