City Section Baseball Playoffs: Quarterfinals Results
In a series of thrilling quarterfinal matchups held over the weekend, several teams emerged victorious as they advance in the City Section baseball playoffs.
Division I Highlights
Top-seeded Sylmar edged past eighth-seeded Chatsworth with a close score of 4-3. In another surprising turn, thirteenth-seeded Verdugo Hills defeated fifth-seeded Sun Valley Poly 8-2. Meanwhile, third-seeded Venice narrowly overcame sixth-seeded Palisades, finishing at 7-6. In a stunning upset, tenth-seeded Taft triumphed over second-seeded Cleveland with an overwhelming score of 11-0.
Division II Results
In Division II, sixteenth-seeded Granada Hills Kennedy secured a decisive 6-0 victory against eighth-seeded Port of LA. Fifth-seeded LA Roosevelt also advanced by besting fourth-seeded LA Wilson 6-2. Sixth-seeded South East won 4-1 against third-seeded Torres, while seventh-seeded Franklin defeated second-seeded Sherman Oaks CES 10-4.
Division III Outcomes
The Division III scoreboard saw ninth-seeded LA Hamilton dominate sixteenth-seeded Fairfax with a 7-0 win. Fourth-seeded Sotomayor narrowly defeated fifth-seeded Sun Valley Magnet with a score of 4-3. Eleventh-seeded Eagle Rock overwhelmed nineteenth-seeded Arleta 11-1, and second-seeded Van Nuys secured their spot in the semifinals with an 11-0 victory over seventh-seeded Fremont.
Upcoming Semifinals Schedule
The semifinal games are set to continue on Tuesday. In Division II, sixteenth-seeded Granada Hills will face off against fifth-seeded LA Roosevelt, while seventh-seeded Franklin takes on sixth-seeded South East.
Divisional matchups in Division III will feature ninth-seeded LA Hamilton competing against fourth-seeded Sotomayor and eleventh-seeded Eagle Rock facing second-seeded Van Nuys.
On Wednesday, Cal State Northridge will host the Open Division semifinals, featuring eighth-seeded Granada Hills against second-seeded El Camino Real at 2 p.m., and fourth-seeded Carson squaring off against top-seeded Birmingham at 5:30 p.m. Additionally, Stengel Field will host Division I matchups, with tenth-seeded Taft taking on third-seeded Venice at 2:30 p.m. and thirteenth-seeded Verdugo Hills meeting first-seeded Sylmar at 5:30 p.m.

The Open Division final is scheduled for May 23 at 1 p.m. at Dodger Stadium, with the Division I final taking place earlier that day at 10 a.m. The Division II final will be held on May 22 at 5:30 p.m., with the venue still to be determined. The Division III final is also set for May 22 at 2:30 p.m., with the site to be announced.
