K-pop Demon Hunters has emerged as Netflix’s most popular film to date, garnering significant viewership since its June 20 premiere. The animated musical, produced by Sony Pictures Animation, added 25.4 million views from August 18 to 24, totaling 236 million views. In addition, the film was noted in Netflix’s biannual engagement report as the most-watched title in its history over a six-month period, amassing 482 million views in the latter half of last year.
The animated film also achieved Oscar recognition, winning awards for Best Original Song and Best Animated Feature.
Earlier this year, Netflix confirmed that a sequel to K-pop Demon Hunters is already in development, with directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans returning, alongside Sony Pictures Animation as the producer.
“With K-pop Demon Hunters, Maggie and Chris didn’t just reach audiences, they ignited a global fandom that crossed languages, generations, and genres,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria. “We’re incredibly proud to deepen our partnership with them and, together with our partners at Sony Pictures Animation, build this universe in ways that will surprise and delight fans all over the world.”
