Behind the Scenes: How Margo’s Got Money Troubles Cast Prepares for Stunts that Highlight Key Moments in Episode Seven
SPOILER ALERT: This report contains details from episode seven of Margo’s Got Money Troubles.
In a recent episode of Apple TV’s Margo’s Got Money Troubles, a poignant scene unfolded that not only tugged at viewers’ heartstrings but also required meticulous behind-the-scenes planning to ensure the safety of the actors.
The episode’s climax, marked by Jinx’s harrowing drug relapse, drew emotional parallels to the source material known to book readers. However, its depiction remains deeply tragic, especially as characters Susie, played by Thaddea Graham, and Margo, portrayed by Elle Fanning, scramble to save Jinx from a nearly overflowing bathtub.
Nick Offerman, who previously performed stunt work for wrestling sequences, found the need for choreography critical in executing this intense scene. “Not only did the actors need to deliver their best reaction performances to Jinx’s relapse, but they needed to safely execute the action of hauling Jinx out of the tub,” Offerman stated.
The physical demands of the scene were formidable. At one point, Jinx’s character inadvertently pins Margo underwater. “That was a heavy day. I have to say it was a long day and a hard day because Thaddea and I were completely soaked, head to toe,” Fanning recounted. “Nick had to be in there. He also can’t help us pull him out. For the most part, we were really trying to tug on him.”
Thaddea Graham and Offerman commended their stunt coordinators and crew for their extensive preparations, which allowed for safe and effective stunt rehearsals. Graham noted, “It was a huge team effort. I’m most proud of that day because there was so much conversation leading up to it.”
Attention was given to every detail, from costume changes to the challenges of resetting the scene. Offerman mentioned the logistics involved, explaining, “Two inches of water on the floor from my ‘flopping into the tub’ had to be cleaned up after every take.”
Reflecting on the day’s demands, Graham expressed, “I came home feeling exhausted, but accomplished. The amount of preparation and skill was amazing to witness. We definitely felt the responsibility of this story that we were telling.” Offerman reiterated the commitment shared by creator David E. Kelley to ensure that the story points remained intact throughout.
As the episode aired, the seamless blend of emotion and technical prowess resonated strongly with audiences, highlighting the significant efforts behind its production.
