Dior’s Fall 2024 Show Takes Inspiration from the ’60s with Go-Go Boots and the Iconic Miss Dior Logo
Dior’s Fall 2024 Collection Draws Inspiration from Miss Dior and Space Age Elegance
The Fall 2024 collection by Dior, unveiled during Paris Fashion Week, pays homage to the iconic Miss Dior line, which debuted in 1967 and represents the luxury brand’s shift from made-to-measure to ready-to-wear fashion. Designer Maria Grazia Chiuri incorporated bold Miss Dior logos prominently displayed on skirts, trench coats, and blazers, appealing to a younger audience reminiscent of the diffusion line created by Philippe Guibourgé over five decades ago.
While the collection captures the spirit of the late 1960s, characterized by elements such as go-go boots, mini skirts, and metallic hues, it also reflects subtler references to the Space Age. Instead of outright retro-futuristic motifs, Chiuri opted for fedora hats, leather berets, and newsboy caps, alongside intricate beading as an alternative to geometric paillettes. This approach highlights a transitional period marked by the sexual revolution and the women’s liberation movement.
The runway featured relaxed denim sets that offered a modern twist to the French luxury house’s usual aesthetic. Sheer tops showcased lingerie, including a striking look with a bra worn over a turtleneck, while menswear-inspired suiting aligned well with current relaxed workwear trends. For fans of contemporary Dior, there were knee-high boots with gladiator-like buckle open backs, accompanied by life-size sculptures from Indian artist Shakuntala Kulkarni.
In line with Dior’s couture pedigree, the collection also featured an array of intricately beaded dresses and shift gowns reminiscent of 1960s fashion icons like Catherine Deneuve. The reimagined Miss Dior character returns with a mature sophistication, showcasing both classic and modern elements.
